Meet Ricky! This sweet, soulful pug is about 4 years old and came to us alongside two female pugs he was being used to breed with. They were living in heartbreaking conditions in an RV, so severe that an officer described it as “deplorable.” When Amador County Animal Control asked us to step in, we didn’t hesitate.
Despite his past, Ricky has been doing wonderfully from the start. While the girls needed more intensive care, Ricky has shown just how resilient and gentle he is. He is currently under 15 pounds and a bit underweight, so he is enjoying plenty of meals and treats to help him gain some much deserved weight. He has been treated for an ear infection, is now neutered, and will be heading in for a dental cleaning soon.
Ricky is incredibly affectionate and thrives on companionship. He wants to be close to his people at all times. His foster lovingly describes him as “more than a shadow, more like an extra limb.” Because of his history, we are hoping to find him a home where he will not be left alone often and where he is welcome to snuggle up in bed at night.
He is great with kids, wonderful with other dogs, and rides nicely in the car. He is not a fan of the crate, which is understandable, but he makes up for it with his sweet, easygoing nature. He is currently working on potty training and is making progress. Ricky adores head rubs and will happily settle into any open lap he can find.
While he is not very interested in toys just yet, he has his own charming way of showing excitement. He sings a happy little song at mealtime. Ricky is a gentle, loving companion who simply wants to be safe, close, and adored.
He is being fostered in Vacaville and will be ready to go to his forever home after May 6. If you are looking for a devoted cuddle bug who will stay by your side through everything, Ricky is your guy.
