Hoagie is the ultimate cuddle bug, happiest when he’s right beside his people.
Within minutes of arriving at his foster home, he made himself part of the family, following his humans from room to room, hopping onto the sofa for snuggles, and curling up in bed at night. He forms deep bonds quickly and absolutely thrives on love and companionship. We estimate him to be about 8 years old.
Hoagie is hard of hearing and relies on visual cues, but the second he spots his person, he lights up and comes running with excitement. He’s incredibly affectionate, attentive, and just wants to be near the people he loves. He also has a serious weakness for carrots.
He came to rescue from a Stockton shelter after being found as a stray. Not long after arriving, he developed kennel cough and needed an emergency vet visit, but thankfully he recovered well and is now feeling great.
Hoagie would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time. Being alone is hard for him, and he’ll bark or howl when his people leave because he simply loves being close. Otherwise, he’s a pretty quiet guy, except when meals are involved because then he makes sure everyone knows it’s time to eat.
He’s friendly and curious with other dogs and has been gentle and sweet with visitors, including children. On leash, he may bark at people or dogs, but off leash he’s much more relaxed and easygoing. He enjoys slow strolls full of sniffing and exploring rather than long, fast-paced walks. He’s also potty trained.
Hoagie was recently neutered, received a dental cleaning, and got soft palate surgery to help him breathe better.
