Meet Pepper!
With the softest heart and the sweetest soul, Miss Pepper is an absolute doll. She’s 7 years old, fully trained, and ready to be someone’s devoted companion.
Pepper is a true snuggle bug who believes the best place in the world is right next to her person, or even better, tucked under the covers where it’s warm and cozy. Naturally quiet and gentle, she thrives in calm moments, soft blankets, and simply being close to you.
Pepper came to us as an owner surrender when her previous family could not provide the basic medical care she needed. She has suffered from food allergies and arrived with hair loss that may not fully grow back, along with a double ear infection. Once we started her on a limited ingredient diet and got her into the vet for an allergy shot and ear medication, she perked up right away and is clearly feeling much better. She also has pigmentary keratitis, a result from chronic dry eye, and has somewhat limited vision. She will need daily eye drops, much like many pugs!
She does well with lower energy dogs and will tolerate younger dog antics. Pepper can be shy with strangers at first, but she’s learning that this new world around her is safe. Her life has changed in ways she doesn’t quite understand, but it’s clear she’s relieved to finally have her medical needs addressed.
It’s been beautiful to watch her confidence grow. Each day she becomes a little braver and more curious. She enjoys short walks and exploring her surroundings, taking everything in with those big, thoughtful eyes. As her confidence builds, we’d love to see her enjoy more physical activity and work toward getting under 20 pounds for her long term health (she's currently 25 pounds).
Pepper is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and being fostered in Martinez, CA.
